Hello everyone! This thread is meant for new (and old) members to introduce and talk about themselves. It's a post where you can be vain and talk about yourself, so take the opportunity! I'm always vain, so it doesn't change much for me. ;-)
I'm Skyler, AKA TheRedArmy. I live in Louisiana, in the United States; as far as I'm concerned, the gulf south is the last bastion of sanity in the world. Maybe the Midwest is OK. Louisiana is a very cool place, with influences from France, Spain, and Native American tribes. The region I live in is called "Acadiana", and we have a flag for it as well, with 3 sections - 3 Fleur-de-Lis against a blue background, representing French heritage, a gold tower on a red background, representing the Spanish governor who controlled the area when the Acadians were expelled from Canada during the French and Indian war, and a gold star on a white background, representing the patron saint Assumption of Mary, with the star representing active participation during the revolutionary war. Incidentally, it's quote similar to the flag of the Philippines. We have a strong Native American presence, with the Chitimacha, Tunica-Biloxi, Coushatta, and Attakapas tribes being the largest, giving us a good number of casinos to choose from (I'm not kidding - 4 within driving distance of a few hours, tops). We're also a bit special for having a predominantly Roman-Catholic population in the middle of the Baptist bible belt, although blacks are still mostly Baptist around here. We also have a not-insignificant number of Asian individuals here, with many political refugees from Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and others contributing largely to our fishing industry.
I first got into Romance of the Three Kingdoms back in my teen years, when I played the strategy game RoTK IX. IX is without a doubt, my favorite of the series, although VIII is also very good. I own 8-11, played a touch of 12, and have high hopes, but low expectations for 13. The cutscenes in IX are the way they should be - absolutely beautiful art, good music, and very cool events (including Dong Zhuo's assassination, Guan Du, Chi Bi, Te 5 Tigers Generals, The King of Han Zhong, and the marriage of the Two Qiaos). The events in VIII are very cool though, with the occasional random thing happening to you if you're not aware of the conditions and meet them on accident. The first time I got married in VIII was purely by chance, as I treated a woman's father for illness, and in return he offered me her hand in marriage. I especially love, when it's historic events (Sun Ce and Zhou Yu's marriage in particular), the event makes more options sound very good. The "yes" response to marrying the daughters is of course positive, and everyone is happy. The "no" response has Zhou Yu and Sun Ce acting very heroically, refusing to indulge in happiness when so many are suffering. They vow to return when the land is at peace, and continue on their way. Very cool.
Other hobbies of mine include video games, the card game Android:Netrunner, and occasionally sitting down to read, but my real passion is tabletop. Tabletop RPGs are of course a big deal, but I also wargame, and it is quite fun to do either, although RPGs will always be special. Some of my fondest memories in life involve me with several friends, dice on the table, pencil in hand, and laughter all around. Just thinking about it make me happy. The games we play are primarily Pathfinder (effectively D&D 3.75), Shadowrun 4th edition, and GURPS. Lately, I've been running a small game, just a Shadowrun game for 2 people. In wargames, a friend is developing his own we'll likely try soon, but the ones I have most experience in is Warhammer 40K, Warhammer Ancient Battles, and Field of Glory. I like Field of Glory and Ancient Battles, and we're currently running a campaign in Ancient Battles - my Ottoman Turks against Ordnance Burgundian in the late 1400's. 40K is also fun, but I think I prefer historical stuff. Even though the Sisters of Battle are cool as shit, and Lady Malys from the Dark Eldar codex has the coolest fluff anywhere. Even if she herself is not great.
I can't think of much else, so that's the big stuff. I hope to hear about everyone else as well. Welcome to the board.
