So, to get the site up and going with some discussion... what types of characters should we expect from everyone this season? I might go a 'lawful evil' route with some type of Han general kind of guy. Someone who's loyal, but willing to get his hands dirty. Somewhat different from the 'charming rogue' Gan Jia normally was, or the 'happy idiot' all of my other characters are <.<;

I've thought about this some, but haven't actually decided anything. I'm interested to see what other players decide to do before I set anything in stone.
I've thought about playing a ruler. That was my plan for Season 8 on the old site. If I did, probably Cao Cao (my favorite, and lots of information on him to draw from for RP), but I just thought about Liu Yu or Han Fu - one of the lesser guys who got the shaft early on in the period might be interesting.
The adviser-type character is always appealing to me, I think I might work best in a support role. Always great when you have a ruler that occasionally listens to your advice; you also always have the possibility to performing a coup with a decent probability for success, if you want. If you've been doing your job right (IE, clearly an important member of the faction, better grasp of the political situation than the ruler, building up friendships with the rest of the officer corps), you can turn the entire game on it's head.
But if there's barely enough players to even keep the game going, I'll likely just be a general or all-around character of some type.

I'm gonna play an old dude, trying not to waste his life away and be forgotten, so he takes up arms eventually. Haven't decided what kind of personality he'll have yet, or who he'll be, but that's the general gist of it.

A bunch of "old" dudes, trying to revitalize fond memories of their younger years, eventually taking up the call to make one last go of it. Wow, that's morbid.

Mine will rely heavily on what kind of rules we have in regards to age-appropriate behavior. If we have to keep it PG-13 then I dunno. If I can go all out, I may go the Kublai Khan route and rape/pillage my way through China with great detail.

Thought about it a bit more. More and more I gravitate toward being a ruler, although I'll also have the quest stuff to do, so that can be...sticky. As long as someone else can handle my stuff, it should be OK, although since I expect to write the great majority of it, it might cause an issue. I'm sure there are ways around it. Also more and more, I think I want to be Cao Cao. I think he's such an interesting mix of generous and ruthless, vindictive and forgiving, heroic and villainous. You can do things from one end of the spectrum to the other and almost all of it is still in character. He modified what he valued according to the situation at hand, and that sort of extreme pragmatism, combined with the occasional "I did this to you because reasons" seems like something that is difficult but rewarding to actually pull off. I can also have a drink with a future rival during a thunderstorm, write a poem before a big battle, and fail to get recognized by enemy generals. What's not to like? I also think I'll rely a fair bit on delegating tasks and stuff. I imagine a situation where officer X is like "Milord, we should go an invade Sum Gai because reasons." I'll think about it an go "OK, sounds good. Why don't you lead the attack personally? Take 4 officers of your choice, except for Zhang Liao and Jia Xu; also, Xiahou Yuan goes with you as the Consulting Commander. Take 25,000 troops, whatever equipment you like, and 4000 gold. You have 3 weeks." I think that sort of style (giving others serious responsibility) is a good way to promote loyalty within the faction. As in, "He gives me serious responsibility and lets me do things the way I want", which is primarily a good thing. Also a good way to be vulnerable to coups and revolts, though. EDIT: On the other head, I do love playing females in RPGs. There's plenty of options for tons of fun there, too. Now I'm all torn again!

Not to spam posts, but I considered this even more, and have narrowed it down even further.
Cao Cao - The one and only Han Fu - Portrayed as a drunkard who is "the only righteous lord left" while performing hilarious and un-righteous things - I need someone to be Pan Feng Pan Feng - Not only can he defeat this Hua Xiong, he can slay 10,000 men with a glare, move mountains with his mind, but can't handle a drink for anything, whereupon he loses all his powers. Also, his canteen has Whiskey in it, permanently. Unnamed Female Advisor - Can be played standalone or as a "companion" to a lord (of any gender). She'll be trying for "Adviser of the Season" Unnamed Female Advisor - To be played standalone. This one is trying for "Usurper of the season" Hao Zhao - A favorite of mine, strong in many areas, soldier by trade, faithful and loyal general Cao Mao - For this character, I need someone to be an adviser from the start, then, near the end of the season, try and usurp power, whereupon a fight to the death happens. Maybe I win, maybe I lose. We'll see!

On another site dedicated to ROTK (Scholars of Shen Zhou), I was writing an After-Action Report for ROTK IX where I was playing as Han Fu, which is why I even mentioned those two characters here. When the coalition against Dong Zhuo dissolved and no-one reformed it, Han Fu cursed all the lords, swore to protect the Han, and vowed to kill Dong Zhuo. Unfortunately, this claim was made in a drunken stupor while in his tent at 3 in the morning with only a bored courtesan as the witness. He promptly forgot about it in the morning. Whenever he talked about the "great coalition", no one bothered to correct him. Also, Pan Feng performed amazing deeds in battle, but was always the only witness, but no-one would dare question him, and poor Ju Shou (the only officer I have who can make a decent warlord) is always under-promoted and disrespected by Han Fu, but also doesn't want to leave. Then I lost my save and haven't played since. :-(
If I can get a Pan Feng, I swear to be Han Fu. We'll conquer the world together! I promise to send you on suicidal duel missions too (you better win them all!) Han Fu is secretly trying to get rid of Han Fu because of his popularity, particularly with the ladies (overweight Han Fu can't seem to attract any girls, he has to hire them all), so makes him duel anyone with more WAR and a pulse. But Pan Feng, being the master that he is, can't lose even against the likes of Lu Bu. That sounds hilarious!

Just to make sure you know what you're getting yourself into, wenqian, there are the stats for Han Fu and Pan Feng - Han Fu - 18/10/29/63/59 (179) Jesus, that's terrible. OK, Pan Feng - Pan Feng - 57/77/4/15/25 (178) HA! Suck on that, Pan Feng, Han Fu is superior! XD I really envy that 77, though. That is baller. That 4 INT...oof. Don't get confused. Or use your brain, ever. You'll be like a car - I'll point you, you just go in that direction. XD

Who knows, maybe I'd go for a slightly superior Pan Feng, depending on how character creation works. Fear my 100 WAR Pan Feng. If I do it, it'll be the first time on the site without everyone just calling me Chen.

I would love to have an idea in stone but am still in the same position as before with no idea what to do after past 2 seasons which have grown stale but I really really hope that all will be well this time round. I have put in my signature all my past characters, starting with a random generic and less known character, then strategists and my barbarian queen, but this time round I am not sure which angle to take, whether to lead/advice/follow, whether good/bad, but open to offers.

Might try and be a ruler. Always wanted to try it but never did as I always ended up with a battle officer. Yan Liang as a ruler, hmmm.

I'll hunt down whoever Jbutton ends up RPing, as Pan Feng and murder them and proceed to murder anyone even remotely involved with them.

Well I believe we are always up for having rulers, whether they be ruler-material or not as far as the character goes, when I think of the ROTK XI created scenarios you can get. I for one am not planning to be a ruler, though for some reason, every season at some point my character does, as my Cai Wengi last was originally to work with Dong Zhuo but he poofed, so we'll see I guess. Still trying to come up with ideas, depending on the alignment I decide, if I'm spoken for and the rules too

I'm going to join a force, kill the ruler and take over. That's basically my legacy anyway, sans the killing part.
